What it does
Ambrel keeps the screenshots, images and links you collect in one visual library on your Mac. Take a screenshot, or copy an image or a link in any app, and it’s saved with the page it came from.
- Find it again by the text inside an image, by color or by what it looks like. The analysis happens on your Mac.
- Organize it on boards and canvases, with saved searches that fill themselves.
- Keep it yours. The library is a folder on your Mac or an external disk, with no account.
What you need
- A Mac with macOS 26 or later, with Apple silicon or Intel.
- For iPhone and iPad: Ambrel 1.3 or later on your Mac, iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later, and the same Apple Account, signed in to iCloud, on every device.
- iCloud storage for what you sync. It counts towards your own iCloud storage.
Install it
On your Mac, download Ambrel.dmg, open it and drag Ambrel to Applications.
Open it. It lives in the menu bar, next to the clock.
Press ⌃⇧4 and save your first capture.

Turn on iCloud
In Ambrel on your Mac, choose Ambrel › Settings… and open Library.
Under iCloud, turn on Sync this library with iCloud. The Inbox and saved searches come along on their own.
In Boards to Sync, choose the boards you want on your iPhone and iPad.
Open Ambrel on your iPhone or iPad, signed in to the same Apple Account. Your library appears in a few moments.
Full-size images stay in iCloud, and your iPhone or iPad downloads each one when you open it. Originals from linked folders stay on their Mac; your other devices show their thumbnails. More answers on the support page.
Your privacy
Your library stays on your Mac. With iCloud on, it also travels to your own iCloud account, which Apple keeps for you and we can’t see. Ambrel for iPhone and iPad collects no analytics. The privacy policy has the details.
